Dr. Kelly Kohls was the recent past President of the Springboro Community City School Board of Education and served on the Warren County Career Center Board of Education. Dr. Kohls is the President of Ohio School Boards Leadership Council, an advocacy group that coaches taxpayers and board members on education leadership. Dr Kohls taught in public Universities for 10 years followed by 15 years in a Nutrition private practice.
She has spent hundreds of hours giving lectures and testifying to our legislators about the needs of children in education and the ways that the current philosophy is putting our children last in education. During her tenure on the Springboro School Board, Dr. Kohls fostered a “Students First” teaching, funding and spending philosophy. The school district has changed from one that continually asked for more from taxpayers into one that is living within its means. Springboro Schools academic successes are higher than ever, average ACT scores have increased, and college remedial rates have declined. By 2013 the school district was in such firm financial standing, $1.3 million of property taxes were returned to Springboro community taxpayers.
Meet Dr. Kelly Kohls
Seeing the need to coach and recruit conservative school board members across the state, Kohls and a small group of other concerned school board members founded the Ohio School Boards Leadership Council. As President of the OSBLC, Dr. Kohls has spoken to numerous groups across Ohio helping them understand the issues around school finance and advising them how their school district can avoid new taxes. She believes that the rate of increase in spending on education can be managed in a way that meets student needs and is fair to local taxpayers.
Kelly appreciates the sacrifice that men and women in uniform make for our freedom and the burden that places on their families. What began as a small backyard pig roast to honor a few of her friends grew into a community-wide event to recognize "with action" these service men and women. Although originally intended as an opportunity to allow community members to show their appreciation, over the years the event has also raised thousands of dollars for the Thank You Foundation.
